Advanced Learning to CARE Institute

As part of The Arab Initiative to Foster a Culture of Volunteering 2011 program, the Association for Volunteer Services, in collaboration with the Arab Thought Foundation, is holding the first Advanced Learning to CARE Institute, October 23-25 in Brummana, Lebanon, for a limited number of people trained on the Learning to CARE Program. The Advanced LTC Institute will:

  • Give participants the opportunity to share their experiences in implementing the program in their own country with graduates from other countries,
  • Provide advanced Learning to CARE training, and
  • Help teams work on expanding and improving their programs in the 2011-2012 academic year.

Those who register will be given the opportunity to provide input into the training topics to be presented at the Institute.

Who Should Attend?

Participants in the Advanced LTC Institute must have:

  • Attended the LTC Institute either in the summer of 2010 in Lebanon or through Takatof in the UAE in 2011.
  • Developed or improved at least one of the service options in the Learning to CARE Program in at least one school (with preference for those who have worked on more than one option and worked with three or more schools).

Through the generosity of The Arab Thought Foundation we have some scholarship funds for no more than two members of those teams that were provided with scholarships in 2010. Scholarship decisions will be based on need as well as on the evidence provided of commitment to the program.

Faculty

The primary trainers for the Institute will be Mrs. Safaa El-Makkaoui (LTC Program Coordinator) and Dr. Patricia Nabti (author of the book Learning to CARE), who both have extensive experience as teachers, trainers, and consultants in volunteering, and are specialists in developing school service programs.

Venue

The Advanced Learning to CARE Institute 2011 will take place at Le Crillon Hotel in Brummana, Lebanon.  Le Crillon is located in the heart of the beautiful resort of Brummana – only 20 kms away from Beirut International Airport and Downtown Beirut: http://www.lecrillon.com/index.htm
